On the swing in golf

With the essence of the game being to use a club to send a ball to a target, the essence of learning golf is to learn how the club must swing to the target if the
ball is to the target

Learning what makes the ball fly as it does is the first step in learning to swing correctly.

We must learn to time the stroke. Start with the putt, then learn to time your chipping , your pitch shots, your iron shots and your drives.
Learning to time these strokes correctly is what the game of golf is all about.

You must eliminate the hit impulse and cultivate the swing impulse, which creates a feeling of pacing and measuring the time and length of the swing.
The ball becomes incidental to the golf club and simply gets in the way as the
club passes through.

The feel for the swinging force starts in the hands and arms and in the feet.
Your hands and arms control the force of the club swinging around your
body, and your feet control your lower body as it supports the movement
of your upper body.

Golf is a target game.

The elements that makes your swing path and pace work most productively
on the course is visualization on target projection.
The influence of a target projection on path is obvious.
A mental picture of the target and the ball flight to that target gives your
swing direction.
Target projection gets your mind away from the ball. An even more important
result of visualization is that it quiets you down mentally so your swing pace
stays correct and constant.
The farther you take that mental picture to the target, the better you’ll become.

Golf is a game that is consciously learned but played best with the subconscious
mind.
